High Lakes Band News

Dear High Lakes Band Families,
I was very impressed with the Band’s first concert in February- they have really come a long way in a very short period of time. Your children are getting a great start on becoming musicians, a start that will serve them well next year in Middle School.

The Cascade Community School of Music undertook this Band project in the fall to replace the program Jen Stockbridge had built over the previous year. We made enrollment estimates based on Jen’s past experience, and set the tuition level accordingly. As it turns out, we have much fewer students than anticipated; sports conflicts, transportation difficulties and the like took a much bigger toll than expected.

In order to make this program financially viable, it has to at least pay for itself. We are not getting any subsidy from High Lakes School- the tuition is our sole source of revenue. As a non-profit, we cannot run a program at a loss- there simply is no money available to make up the difference.

Faced with the choice of cancelling the program for the remainder of the year, or raising the tuition just enough to cover the actual cost of our instructor, we have decided to raise the tuition to $95 for spring term. We will also discontinue class on Thursdays as of April 17.

Compared to the other classes offered at CCSM, this sis still a bargain, but I recognize that it may present a challenge for some families. If  this is the case, please let me know ASAP and we can look for scholarship funds. I am determined that no earnest student be turned away- we’ll make it work.

If you have other ideas as to how we might support this program, I’d sure like to hear them.

Looking forward to the Spring Concert!

Concert Dates for the rest of the school year:

Spring Concert is Wed, May 14th, at 6 p.m. at Seven Peaks School

The location is at the request of High Lakes and again, will be a

joint concert with the Seven Peaks Bands.

It will last about one hour.

Please put these dates and times on your calendars.

Concert attendance is required of all students.  If there are any conflicts with sports or other activities,

please let the coaches know now.  (I would be happy to speak with any coaches if need be.)

One of our goals is to prepare meaningful music and share it with a live audience,

so these concerts are a very important part of your child’s musical experience.

In case you missed the first news flyer I sent home with your child, you can e-mail me,
