Get ready for 3 Leg Torso! November 19-21
presented by Fincham Financial Group
The cosmopolitan 3 Leg Torso performs innovative and daring original compositions as well as traditional music influenced by Latin, Eastern European folk, jazz and other world music traditions.
3 Leg Torso is inspired by the sounds of many different traditions and styles. By fusing elements of chamber music, tango, Klezmer, French musette, jazz, cartoon music and Latin music, 3 Leg Torso creates a sound solely their own. The ensemble’s music is also informed by the story telling nature of programmatic music, most frequently heard in today’s film music.

3 Leg Torso will be offering their "Young Audiences" presentation at Buckingham Elementary November 19 at 2PM. Student imaginations are piqued in an interactive exchange that teaches about musical storylines, composition, improvising and the interdependent roles the instruments play in the music performed by this multi-talented quintet. Using wit and humor, ensemble members share their personal stories about becoming musicians and demonstrate their individual instruments, which include the violin, accordion, double bass, xylophone, vibraphone, glockenspiel, waterphone, doumbeks, storm drum, drum kit and bird call. This charming, high-energy program includes a short question-and-answer session.
Saturday morning November 21 10:30AM- Noon at CCSM: the band will offer an interactive master class. Join the members of 3 Leg Torso for a lively discussion/demonstration of their artistic process in crossing the boundaries between classical, jazz and world music. This Master
Class, called “From the Old World to the New,” attracted a standing-room-only crowd at the San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival in 2006
and continues to both delight and inform audiences up and down the West Coast. In this one hour presentation, you’ll learn how the personal musical histories of the individual members have blended to create a seamless and distinctive whole. Each member shares his
unique story—from formal, classical training to learning Hungarian folk music from one’s gypsyfiddler grandfather; from session work in L.A. for movies and television to participation in and
performance of the microtonal new music created by the Harry Partch Ensemble; from busking on the streets of Portland to holding court in the jazz and rock clubs of Santa Cruz.
The ensemble also invites you into their specific creative process, demonstrating how different musical traditions are combined for a new and exciting effect.
The Master Class includes a significant amount of live performance and a Q&A session. Tickets are FREE but pre-registration is REQUIRED; please use our Event Registration Page.
