Cascade School of Music is proud to announce 15 year old guitar student, Jennie Birge, has been awarded the Rising Star Award for February. Jennie is a student of Matt Gwinup, and the daughter of Rachel Birge of Bend.
The Rising Star Award recognizes students in year one or two of private instruction who exhibit talent, effort, and achievement. The students who receive this award have been nominated by their teachers as showing both great promise as musicians along with great perseverance and commitment to their craft.
Rachel, Jennie’s mother, states “Jennie is driven by music. She practically wakes up singing. She learns things faster when set to music. She seems to have music in her blood! I really enjoying listening to her sing or play her guitar. She is also involved in 4H and OHSET with her horse. She enjoys cuddling with her dog and cat when she gets home.”
Matt Gwinup states, "Jennie started lessons with in early 2017 as a total beginner, and I have seen her make great strides in her playing since that time. She works hard, loves music, and loves to sing and play her instrument. Jennie has taken part in 2 recitals so far and it takes courage to both sing and play for a live audience. I am very proud of her accomplishments so far and can't wait to see where she will go from here."
Along with an award certificate, Jennie received a $50 scholarship toward her private lessons and goody bags from award sponsors Cascade Indoor Sports, Cuppa Yo, and Cascade School of Music. Jennie and subsequent monthly Rising Star Award winners are the only students eligible to win the grand prize $500 scholarship to continue their music studies at Cascade School of Music, which will be announced at Crescendo Bendo to be held at the Tower Theatre on June 2, 2018.
