Ali Bylund

Clarinet

Ali Bylund was raised in Bend, Oregon and has studied clarinet for over fifteen years. She attended Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon for a year and a half, where she studied Clarinet Performance with Professor Dunja Jennings. Upon leaving Lewis & Clark, she has since obtained her Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Policy & Management, with a Minor in Sustainability from Oregon State University. Ali has performed as principal of the Cascade Winds Symphonic Band at COCC since the Winter of 2013, has sat second chair on and off with the Central Oregon Symphony since the 2017-18 season and can be sighted gigging with the Summit Express Jazz Band from time to time around town. She also has experience playing soprano, alto, and tenor saxophone. With a diverse background of knowledge, she focuses on the individual needs of each student, and is comfortable teaching all ages. Emphasis is placed on tone development, phrasing, and sight-reading to strengthen personal skills and insight the self-confidence and excitement she feels about musical expression and sharing it with others—although she will always say that her number one goal in creating music is to have fun, because otherwise, what’s the point?! When she isn’t playing clarinet, she can often be found working on a knitting project, painting watercolor, riding her bicycle around town and enjoying the outdoors of beautiful Central Oregon.
